Tora no Tsume Katana Sword: design and finishes
The Tora no Tsume katana sword also known as Tiger’s Claw, is characterized by its refinement and meticulously designed details. The T10 steel blade features a genuine Choji (cabbage leaf) clay hamon pattern, highly appreciated in feudal Japan. The black-grained wood scabbard contrasts elegantly with the black and white Sageo. The handle or Tsuka, made of genuine black ray skin, is wrapped in brown Tsuka-ITO woven in a diamond pattern. The gilded menuki depicts a mitsu tomoe, reinforcing the sword’s authenticity and elegance. The rounded cross-shaped hammered brass guard features a mitsu tomoe symbol. The Fuchi and Kashira, also in hammered brass, and the Habaki in engraved brass with black hallmarks, complete this masterpiece. Tora no Tsume, with its patterns and finishes, embodies the power and grace of the tiger, a weapon both fearsome and splendid.
