Kurokage katana sword: design and finishes
The name Kurokage (黒影), which literally means “Black Shadow,” evokes the tradition of shadow warriors and martial arts in feudal Japan. This name captures the very essence of discretion and deadly precision, essential qualities of a master samurai. The kanji 黒 (kuro) symbolizes not only the color black but also depth, mystery, and hidden strength, while 影 (kage) represents the shadow that silently follows its target.
The T10 steel blade has a natural finish that reveals the raw beauty of forged metal, while the round black alloy guard (tsuba) evokes the shape of a shuriken. The handle (tsuka) harmoniously combines midnight blue faux stingray skin with black braiding (tsuka-ito) in a diamond pattern, providing a firm and elegant grip. The menuki represent a black dragon, symbolizing power and wisdom, while the black alloy fuchi and kashira complete the ensemble with their smooth and refined finish. The black habaki also bears a swirling kamon evoking the shuriken. The black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) is decorated with black shuriken-shaped kamon, and its ends (kojiri and koiguchi) echo this deep hue, accompanied by a discreet black sageo.
