Hakuryū katana sword: design and finishes
The Hakuryū (白竜) katana sword evokes the mystical power of the White Dragon, a legendary creature from Asian mythology that symbolizes purity, wisdom, and spiritual transformation. Unlike the red dragon, which embodies fiery passion, the white dragon represents serenity and self-control, essential qualities of a true samurai.
Its T10 steel blade features a matte black finish that contrasts beautifully with the shine of the brushed brass habaki. The bo-hi carved into the steel lightens the blade while producing the characteristic whistling sound when cutting, while the round black alloy tsuba reveals the sinuous contours of a dragon coiled around itself. The handle combines the rough texture of black faux stingray skin with black tsuka-ito braiding in a diamond pattern, creating a firm and elegant grip. The menuki represent black dragons that seem to watch over the wearer’s hand, while the smooth black alloy fuchi and kashira add a refined sobriety.
